Kyoto raised its lodging tax

Kyoto raised its lodging tax from 1 March 2026, with top-tier rooms now taxed up to 10,000 yen per person per night. Most travelers pay far less.

Why it matters: Factor it in for a high-end Kyoto stay; a mid-range room adds much less.
