True Trip Costs / Truth Check

The internet is confidently wrong about travel money.

Search a travel money question and the top results are years-old blog posts and forum threads repeating advice that stopped being true. Here is what the internet keeps saying, and what we actually found. Some of these cost us a commission. That is rather the point.

Why this page exists, and what it costs us

These corrections already lived inside individual country guides, one myth per page, reachable only by the reader who happened to open that exact page. Collected here, they are also the most shareable thing on the site: a traveler who finds out the CPF myth is wrong, or that the UK now requires an ETA before boarding, wants to tell someone.

The honest version of this page has to be willing to cost us money, and it does. The flagship entry says a travel eSIM, the product we earn a commission on, usually is not the cheapest answer. We would rather say so than pad this list with soft, flattering corrections. Every entry above traces to prose that already exists in a guide, with a real source you can open and check for yourself.
