Hong Kong brought back its 3% hotel tax
On 1 January 2025 Hong Kong reinstated its 3% Hotel Accommodation Tax on the room charge, after 17 years at zero. It is usually already in the hotel bill, though a few hotels collect it at check-in.
Why it matters: A Hong Kong room now carries a small tax again, in a city that otherwise remains a free port with no sales tax at all.
